Shoe Drive 2011

FHS FCCLA collected 231 pairs of shoes to be donated to My Sister's Closet whose proceeds go to various causes including abuse victims. All of the shoes represent a child who is/was a victim of child abuse in Texas. We led the walk around the courthouse again this year. One difference from last year was our voice. 2010, we led a very quiet parade. This year, we rallied and yelled! BE AWARE! Children need a voice. We're here to give it.

Here are our pictures for this year's event.

·        Bianca P. called to order the regular meeting of the FHS FCCLA at 7:34 AM on January 7, 2011, in room 1428.
II. Roll call
·        The following persons were present (attach sign in sheet)
III. Approval of minutes from last meeting
·        Approved as read
IV. Open issues
·        Toy drive was a huge success! The people of th Crisis Center of Northeast Texas were really thrilled to see such a big donation. Ms. Johnson’s class won by donating 72 toys. Ms. Smith’s class came in wit a close second of 67 donated toys. With the toys that FCCLA donated, that was well over 200!
We will be baking cupcakes Friday February 11 after school. We will decorate before school on Monday February 14. We will then deliver to Ms. Johnson's class during 4th period. Please be sure to come sign up for what you will be doing. I need to know ASAP so I can email teachers and have you released from class as needed. Bakers. Decorators. Delivery people!
·        Reading to children in hospital - We will start this semester. If you still have books, please donate them! I believe we are doing this in March (Hey Secretary, you need to take better notes!). I will have actual dates soon (Hey President, let me know the day!)
·        “Welcome Home a Hero” - No new information here. We will be going to DFW airport to welcome military for R&R in May. We will hand out goodie bags with donations. We decided to do a fundraiser in March and I'll purchase goody bag stuff.
V. New business
·        Cell phone donations - Student Council is collecting cell phones to benefit battered women. The winning student organization wins breakfast. They are taking any old and broken cell phone - no chargers. This also benefits the environment. Does anyone remember the dates for this? Now until...?
·        FCCLA group shot for year book will be on Wednesday January 26 during 6th period - if there is no conflicting school schedule. Advanced photography is taking the photo. Be sure to wear this year's shirt if you have one.

·        You Are Beautiful - Friday January 28 after school, we will be making shirts for You Are Beautiful Day. Purchase a pink shirt - I'm supplying paint and paint brushes. Your Are Beautiful Day... Tuesday February 15th, ladies need to remember to not wear make up. Because of low confidence and very low self esteem, this program is meant for you to be more comfortable in your skin and love who you are. Boys can support the girls by wearing a pink shirt (you also have the opportunity to make You Are Beautiful shirts too). Boys, this shows that you accept the young ladies as they are. There may be a small assembly for participants. I need to check with Mr. C if we have to do this after school. I'd really like to do it in the morning so we can start the day with a positive.
·       We plan on doing a fundraiser working at CiCi's in Greenville in February.

Next Meeting -  Date: Friday January 21 7:30 AM in Mrs. B's room
VI. Adjournment
